By an almost unanimous poll, it was decided by the attendees of the 2024 International Symposium on Display Holography to hold other such events annually to keep up the momentum in propagating the medium. The next ISDH at Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Illinois, will be held from June 16th to June 20th, 2025. To check out 2024's festivities, go to https://isdh2024.org
This conference is open to all practitioners of wavefront reconstruction, from laboratory recording artists to academic gallerists and all those entrepreneurial in-betweens, from any and all parts of the World. Last year there were attendees from Asia, Europe, and the United States, it would be great to see all continents represented.
All attendees are given the opportunity to describe the who, what, where, when and why of what they do in the field, either through classroom lectures or talks about their work hanging in the Pop-Up Holography Gallery in the Lillard Science Building at Lake Forest College.
All attendees are given the opportunity to exhibit their work or wares in the Pop-Up Holography Gallery located around the corner from the Lecture Room. Table space, black backdrops, lights and lasers on the house.
It has been decided to run another International Symposium on Display Holography at Lake Forest College from the 16th to the 20th in the June of 2025. This decision was made because of the overwhelmingly positive response of the 2024 participants, and the regrets posted on social media of those who didn't make it but wished they would have.
Although hosting the event in consecutive years at LFC seems contrary to the triennial plan of the original conference organizer, Dr. Tung Hon Jeong, (better known as TJ) no one seems to remember that he was hoping someone else would host similar events in the in-between years. But no one took the opportunity. He was a full-time professor at The College, a popular after dinner speaker, had high school and college-aged children, and ran the largest distributor of Agfa-Geveart holography materials in the world. To say that is a full plate is an understatement, so he really couldn't squeeze an annual event into his schedule.
For the medium to undergo a renaissance, the community should meet up on a regular basis, certainly at least annually. Optical engineering conferences were not a perfect fit for the typical holographer, with the opportunity to present papers for only a chosen few, in a rigorous format, which would hinder those who wished to share their knowledge, but being practitioners of the art, did not have the time for scholarly pursuits.
There will be no printed proceedings for this conference. There are 269 reasons not to do so, proceedings left over from the 1982, 1985, 1988 Symposia at LFC, and from 2009 in China. All attendees of ISDH 2025 will get a complete set of them, along with the accompanying exhibition catalogs, as part of their conference swag and to further the culture of holography.
In this tree-conserving 21st century, all the presentations and demonstrations will be recorded and uploaded with the consent of the speaker to the ISDH 2025 site. Additional material like an academic paper, CV, resume, link to web site, etc., would also be archived in the ISDH cloud. Attendees may visit it freely, while a pay per download fee of $5 per presentation, split between presenter and web server, was deemed as a reasonable fee for disseminating the information to those who did not attend and rewarding the hard work of the presenters for sharing their information, a first in the history of these conferences.
Since there is no press deadline, papers will be accepted at the conference. Abstracts, or at least the title of the presentation or demonstration, are encouraged to be submitted as soon as possible after one registers so that it can be added to the public schedule.
